Art from India to Southeast Asia

This is the Borobudur Mahayana Buddhist Temple located in what is today Indonesia. It was

constructed based on the influence of Gupta art which demonstrates the influence of Indian culture

on the region.

In the trip to Afro-Eurasia we discovered the influence art has from one place to another. While traveling through the Indian Ocean in junks (giant ships) as merchants from one place to another, SEANN's Time Traveling Team noticed how the diffusion of culture and art influenced other places.

The SEANN crew took a tour in beautiful places in Southeast Asia and a local tour guide explained how different cultures and art influenced other places. The tour guide took us to the Sailendra kingdom located in Southeast Asia.

In Sailendra we visited the Borobudur temple. When a traveler of our tour group asked the tour guide of how the construction of this temple was influenced, the tour guide told us, “This beautiful temple called Borobudur, is a mountain-like Buddhist monument. This ten level structure has a three mile walkway and is coated with carvings that represent the spiritual travel to reach full enlightenment. This temple right here is the largest Buddhist monument ever discovered in the world and it represents the process of Buddhism becoming culturally grounded in a new place. This temple is the evidence of the spread of Indian culture in Southeast Asia."

The effects of human interaction in the Indian Ocean have affected the spread of architecture from one place to another by the innovations they have made in new places bby implementing these new types of art.
